Postdoctoral researcher Raluca Tanasescu was delighted to present her digitally-engaged work on the PIETRA project at the “Epistemic Translation: Towards an Ecology of Knowledges” international conference, organized at the Nova University of Lisbon (December 14-16, 2023) by the EPISTRAN team, led by brilliant Translation Studies scholar Karen Bennett. Raluca’s presentation examined the topic of Digital Humanities as epistemic translation and emphasized the role of the digital humanities in bridging the epistemic gap between the humanities and the technological epistemic system. In this context, various approaches based on the cultural technique of flattening were presented as valuable for investigating large amounts of information or digitally-mediated data, such as the varied corpora that the PIETRA project engages with.
