Research Assistant
Iwona O’Donoghue has been working in the University of Galway since March 2009. She holds a Master of Arts in English in Language Studies and Translation from Poland where she also undertook her undergraduate studies, a Bachelor of Arts in English, Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Her masters’ research focused on the analysis of the practical usefulness of Machine Translation in selected grammatical categories on the basis of two online translators under the supervision of Dr Piotr Blumczynski. She is also a qualified English language teacher with four years’ experience teaching English at primary school level.
Iwona joined the PIETRA Project as a Research Assistant on a part-time basis in June 2023. Iwona’s role is to support the project in relation to Polish language translation and the alignment of Polish texts in the PIETRA corpus, including translation analysis in Polish and other associated research activities as they arise from the work undertaken by the other members of the team.
