“My participation in the “BakerSisu Media Translation and Digital Culture” summer school provided me with an insight into the different analytical methods and approaches applied in media translation research,” explained Menna, our PhD student. For two weeks, Menna attended the International Research School for Media Translation and Digital Culture organised by the Baker Centre for Translation & Intercultural Studies at the Shanghai International Studies University between June 26 and July 8, 2023.

“The school provided me with useful information on multimodality, media sociology and theories of communication technology, which could be applied to my PhD research on translation and social media. I also learned about paratextuality, conversation analysis and different approaches to narrativity in translation studies. The school was also an opportunity to expand my knowledge about peer PhD projects in the same area of research and identify similarities and differences.”
